Can I copy images from SpeechTags and paste them to another program, like PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro?

Not at this time. The most common use of photo editors includes the management of brightness, contrast and rotation. Those image editing capabilities are available with SpeechTags . Hence, the need to perform these edits by copying to a photo editing product has been reduced. However, any tagged image can be edited with other programs. Those that publish IPTC data often show the caption text when information about the image is an option.

Are images moved or copied to a SpeechTags managed directory or where the albums are stored?

No, the images are never moved. They remain in the directory in which they were stored when they were tagged.

Can I speak commands that are on menus without first opening the menu?

Yes, SpeechTags is listening for all the commands whenever it is not in dictation mode. However, speaking at command out of context, for example, speaking "yes" when there is no prompt will be ignored.

Can I paste image files directly onto the album frame without creating a new album?

Yes. You can drag and drop .jpg-type files right onto the Album frame without first creating an album.

Do I need to use the Import utilities (Images/Folders) to add images to Albums?

No, you can use Windows Explorer to locate and then drag and drop images onto the album frame or an album.

Is the original image tagged or a copy of it made first and then the copy tagged?

The original image is tagged and remains so even after you exit from SpeechTags . Tagged images can be accessed and managed in the same way as any non-tagged .jpg-type file.

What is IPTC METADATA?

IPTC is an international standard, adopted by over 50 companies, for the definition and description of information to describe the structure of document to be transmitted electronically. IPTC metadata were employed by Adobe Systems Inc. to describe photos already in the early nineties. A subset of the IPTC " Information Interchange Model - IIM " was adopted as the well known " IPTC Headers " for Photoshop, JPEG and TIFF image files which currently describe millions of professional digital photos. It includes field definitions for contact, content, image and status.

Typically, the term "metadata" is used to reference a formal structure of information that is used to describe items in a catalogue. As the term "IPTC metadata" pertains to a .jpg file, it is the descriptive data that is stored along with the image.

Can the tagged image file be accessed and edited with photo edit programs?

Yes. In fact, if the photo editing or paint application uses the standard IPTC interface to the image files metadata, that program might be able to show you the text in the Caption field.

What happens if the tagged image is moved to another folder?

SpeechTags will alert you to the fact that the image is no longer a member of the album. The file name, however, is retained in the album and listed in the album tree. You then have the option of either removing the image from the album or moving the image or a copy of the image back into the directory in which it was located when included in the album.

Can SpeechTags tag TIF files?

Not in this release.

If the image is tagged as part of an album and subsequently opened in another application, renamed, and then saved back in the original location, will it appear in the album?

No. Albums are a collection of image file names and locations. If either the name or the location changes outside of SpeechTags it is no longer part of the album. However, if only the name is changed, changing it back will recover the integrity of the album. Note: changing the name in the album tree to the new name will not work.

Do I need to create an album in order to tag images?

No. Image files can be dropped onto or imported into to the Album frame, but don't need to be included in an album.

Can the keyboard and mouse be used to edit the filename and caption field?

Yes. In addition, the mouse can be used to make menu selections and initiate commands.

What types of image files can it detect?

This release is used to tag .jpg files, only. However, the potential to tag any IPTC compatible image file format exists. The ".jpg"-type format seems to be the one most favored across a broad range of cameras, including those produced by Canon, Sony, Kodak, Pentax, Fuji and many others.

Can I use SpeechTags on a Mac.

Not at this time. Please contact us if the need exists.

What operating systems are supported?

Supported operating systems include Microsoft Windows2000, XP and Vista.

Will the SpeechTags recognition engine work with other applications?

That depends. If the 'Settings" button to the right of the Language selection list is enabled, select it. There may be an option that permits the use of the recognizer with other applications.

If I installed speech with Microsoft Word, will I be able to use word and speech tag after SpeechTags is installed?

Yes, and any speech recognition profile that you have created we'll be retained.

Why does SpeechTags work well for me but not for others?

Make sure that the other individual has created and selected their speech profile before they begin to use SpeechTags .

What happens to SpeechTags when other programs are running at the same time?

Other application can execute at the same time you are using SpeechTags . However, if you move the focus of execution to one of those other programs SpeechTags stops listening. This is equivalent to the command "Stop Listening". This is done in order to minimize the possibility that actions or speech directed to another application will not inadvertently be recognized as a SpeechTags command or text and, as a consequence, modify images in unintended ways.

What is an album, actually?

An album is a logical collection of jpg files. This means that the jpg files remain in the directory in which they were located before tagging. Albums are stored elsewhere and contain the name of the file and its location. If a file is moved, Speech Tags makes no attempt to locate it. However, an entry remains in the album tree.

I am having trouble getting speech that to recognize what I am saying. In what ways can I improve recognition accuracy?

• Additional Training - Complete at least two cycles of speech training the recognizer. Three cycles is even better.

• Change the Recognizers Settings. You can use the Tools interface to access the Recognizer or access it via the Speech icon on the Windows Control Panel.

Once it is accessed, select the Settings button. Then, move the Accuracy vs. Recognition Response Time slider all the way to the right. Note the implied trade-off: greater the accuracy, the slower the recognition times. However, if your computer has a newer processor (Intel or AMD) with a speed greater than 1.7 GHz, you should experience acceptable response time.

Next, move the Pronunciation Sensitivity slider to either of the two left-most settings. This adjustment should improve recognition of your use of the Speech Tags commands.

Click the OK buttons, consecutively, to retain the settings and exit.

• Use a microphone or headset with a microphone intended for use with speech recognition applications. Check the specifications on the box before you purchase it. Ideally it will use an electret microphone.

• A relatively quiet environment is conducive to excellent speech recognition. However, quiet background music should not be an issue.

Can SpeechTags be used by more than one person?

Yes. However, each person needs to create and use their own speech profile. Speech profiles can be created and selected using either the Tools menu within SpeechTags or accessing the speech engine via the Speech icon on the control panel.

Can Speech Tags User Interface be 'skinned' so I can customize its appearance?

Yes. We will have some examples of what others have done with 'skinning'.

What happens to the images that have been tagged as part of an album and then I delete the album?

The images remain tagged and, of course, remain in their original location(s).

I keep saying "Start Listening" and Speech Tags doesn't respond.

When you go to interact with another application (i.e. Speech Tags looses focus), Speech Tags stops listening. Therefore the Start Listening command can be initiated only by its selection with the mouse or keyboard. Note also that the color of the text is always black regardless of the color you chose for the verbal command text.
